The Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. is a Las Vegas-based amateur radio organization focused on repeater infrastructure, technical education, operating, experimentation, special event stations, and community. Our affiliated systems operate across 2 meters, 70 centimeters, and 33 centimeters, with coverage throughout the Las Vegas Valley, Henderson, Southern Nevada, and beyond through RF and AllStar connectivity.

The equipment matters, but the people matter more. SCRG grew from operators talking on the radio who eventually became friends, worked on projects together, and started getting together away from the microphone. That culture still defines the group today.

We Are Not a Breakfast Club

SCRG is not a breakfast club with radios on the side. We are an operating club.

Our members build and maintain repeater systems, work on RF infrastructure, troubleshoot equipment, experiment with AllStar and networked radio, operate HF, participate in special event stations, teach each other, and develop new projects and activities.

That does not mean the social side is an afterthought. Meals, outings, family activities, barbecues, and informal gatherings have been part of Sin City from the beginning. The difference is that amateur radio is what brings people together in the first place.

The radio comes first. The community grows from it.

More Than Repeaters

Despite the name, the Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. is not limited to VHF and UHF.

Members participate throughout amateur radio, including HF operating, DX, SSB, FT8, FT4, digital modes, special event stations, technical experimentation, and educational activities. SCRG's K7F special event operations have connected Las Vegas operators with stations across the United States and around the world while combining amateur radio with history, education, and community outreach.

We also take repeater infrastructure seriously. SCRG-affiliated systems include commercial-grade repeater equipment, AllStar-connected systems, urban installations, and mountain-top infrastructure at locations such as Angel Peak and elsewhere around Southern Nevada.

For some operators, using the repeater is enough. Others eventually want to know what is happening behind the microphone: how duplexers work, why antenna systems perform differently, how repeaters are linked, how AllStar works, what goes into maintaining a mountain-top communications site, and how RF problems are actually diagnosed.

That is where Sin City Repeater Group becomes particularly useful.

One of the biggest problems in amateur radio is what happens after somebody gets licensed. They buy a handheld, program a few repeaters, make a few calls, and then wonder what comes next.

SCRG gives newer operators somewhere to go next.

You do not need to understand repeaters before getting involved. You do not need an expensive station or thirty years of experience. Ask questions, listen, participate, come to an activity, help with a project, try HF, learn another mode, and meet people who know what you want to learn.

If you have spent years as an appliance operator and want to understand the systems behind the radio, that is welcome too.

If you already know RF, networking, Linux, AllStar, commercial radio systems, antennas, electronics, HF, digital modes, public service, or repeater maintenance, there is plenty to do.

SCRG is a place where experienced operators can contribute what they know and where worthwhile ideas have a chance to become real projects. We would rather see members take ownership of something than sit around waiting for officers to create the next activity.

If somebody says, "We should do this," the next question should be, "How do we make it happen?"

Built Differently

SCRG is a Nevada nonprofit educational corporation, an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) organization, and an ARRL-affiliated amateur radio club.

We are also organized somewhat differently from many traditional ham radio clubs.

Membership gets you involved. Contribution earns influence.

Technical work matters. Operational involvement matters. Supporting activities matters. Helping with infrastructure matters. Taking ownership matters.

We believe the people who actually help build the organization should have a meaningful role in shaping where it goes next.

You do not need to own a repeater or be an RF engineer to contribute. There are many ways to put skin in the game. What matters is participation.

Membership

SCRG welcomes licensed amateur radio operators age 18 and older who are interested in becoming part of an active amateur radio organization serving Las Vegas, Henderson, Clark County, and Southern Nevada.

Membership is selective and subject to review under the SCRG Constitution and Bylaws.

Current membership categories include:

• Standard Membership: $75 per year
• Senior Membership: $50 per year
• Veteran Membership: $40 per year
• Non-Resident Associate Membership: No annual dues for qualifying operators outside Clark County

SCRG operates a closed, controlled-access repeater network. Membership and repeater authorization are separate, and membership does not automatically provide access to every SCRG-affiliated repeater. That structure protects the privately maintained equipment, the operating environment, and the people who invest their time and resources into keeping the system on the air.

Why Sin City?

Las Vegas has no shortage of repeaters. What is harder to find is an amateur radio community where people are regularly talking, building, operating, learning, and creating new things together.

That is what SCRG is trying to build.

The organization is still young enough that new members are not simply inheriting traditions somebody else created twenty years ago. New projects are developing. New activities are being proposed. The repeater network continues to evolve. Members still have an opportunity to help shape what the organization becomes.

A year from now, there will be projects completed that do not exist today. There will be activities nobody has proposed yet and operators who know more than they do today because somebody took the time to teach them.

The people who get involved now will be able to say they helped build it.
